Conversation is the beginning of change.
In the spirit of unity, service, and education for peace, the National Center for Race Amity invites you to host a Race Amity Roundtable — a structured community conversation that creates space for honest dialogue and builds the kind of genuine understanding that leads to action.
What Is a Roundtable?
A Roundtable is a youth- and adult-facilitated conversation that brings people together to share stories, listen deeply, and build empathy across lines of difference. These gatherings consistently transform participants' perceptions of race and belonging, fostering a shared commitment to unity and justice.
Roundtables are not debates — they're conversations. Participants don't come to win arguments; they come to understand each other. The result is something rarer than persuasion: genuine connection across difference.
Together, we build spaces where difficult conversations become bridges — and where understanding turns into action.
Topics We Explore
Each Roundtable explores a meaningful theme designed to spark insight and genuine connection.
Othering
Examines exclusion, marginalization, and structural inequity — and how we build a world based on inclusion, fairness, and care instead.
"I Don't See Color"
Explores why this well-intentioned phrase can erase cultural identity and ignore the real inequities different communities experience.
Intent vs Impact
Investigates why impact matters more than intention across racial relationships — and how to adjust when your impact falls short of your intent.
Unconscious Bias
Explores the science of how our brains categorize information quickly — and how to bring that thinking to the conscious level in cross-racial relationships.
Interracial Friendships
Are interracial friendships important? Explores how genuine friendship across racial lines reduces bias in individuals and strengthens communities.
How It Works
A warm, participatory format that creates space for honest dialogue.
Introduction
We open with an introduction to the Race Amity framework and why it is such an important tool for unity and healing.
Video Presentation
A short film introduces the chosen theme and sets the stage for reflection.
Personal Reflection
Participants take five minutes to reflect quietly on what resonated or challenged them.
Small Group Dialogue
Groups of 5–7 with a trained facilitator explore the theme and discuss how to translate insight into action.
Shared Circle
We close by coming back together — or, if preferred, youth and adults meet separately for deeper comfort and openness.
Who Can Host?
Race Amity Roundtables are designed to be flexible and welcoming — meeting people where they already gather.
If your organization or community has a space that encourages honest conversation and respectful listening, it's a good fit for a Race Amity Roundtable.
Your Seat Is Waiting
Whether you want to host a Roundtable, partner as an organization, sponsor a community session, or simply learn more — we'd love to hear from you.
